International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Counsel Karim Khan has requested the issuance of an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He also called for warrants against three others, including Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh. The prosecutor’s office confirmed this information in a statement on Monday (May 20). This news was reported by Qatar-based media Al-Jazeera.

Al-Jazeera reports also said that an arrest warrant has also been applied for Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Prosecutor Karim Khan said he sought arrest warrants against Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, among others, on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

It should be noted that this is the first time that a warrant has been requested in the ICC against someone close to the United States. The ICC is likely to consider the Chief Prosecutor’s application. That is, arrest warrants may be issued against Netanyahu, Gallant, Yahya Sinwar, Mohammad Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri, Ismail Haniya
