Bangladesh is set to observe its Independence Day tomorrow with great enthusiasm and reverence. The day will be marked by a series of national-level programs aimed at honoring the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and celebrating the nation’s sovereignty. The celebrations will commence with a 31-gun salute at dawn, followed by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus placing a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar as a tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War. Alongside him, Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq-e-Azam, families of Bir Shreshthas, war-wounded freedom fighters, members of the diplomatic corps, and leaders from various political and social organizations will also pay their respects. In addition, similar floral tributes will be placed at district and upazila-level martyrs’ memorials across the country.

As part of the celebrations, the national flag will be hoisted atop all government, semi-government, and private buildings nationwide. Schools and educational institutions will organize student assemblies and parades at divisional, district, and upazila levels. The capital and other cities will be adorned with colorful lights, flags, and banners, illuminating major landmarks and government buildings. The entire country will embrace a festive spirit, reinforcing the pride and unity of the nation.

The Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has issued a special message for the occasion, reaffirming the interim government’s commitment to good governance, justice, and sustainable development. He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in state affairs and extended his greetings to all Bangladeshis at home and abroad. Reflecting on the historical significance of March 26, 1971, he stated, “Achieving independence was the result of a long struggle to protect our dignity and existence. I pay my respects to the brave martyrs whose sacrifices brought us the freedom we cherish today.” He further noted that for 16 years, the people of Bangladesh were deprived of their rights under dictatorship and credited the uprising of students, workers, and the masses for liberating the country from oppression. He called upon the nation to work toward development, peace, and prosperity while upholding the spirit of the Liberation War.

A host of cultural and sporting events have been planned to mark the day. Special sports competitions, including football, T20 cricket, and kabaddi, will be organized at district and upazila levels. A state reception will be held to honor freedom fighters and the families of martyred war heroes in major cities, districts, and upazilas. The Bangladesh Postal Department will issue commemorative stamps in remembrance of the occasion. Special prayers will be held at mosques, temples, churches, and pagodas, seeking eternal peace for the martyrs of the Liberation War and continued progress for the nation. Hospitals, prisons, orphanages, old-age homes, and childcare centers will serve special meals, while children’s parks and museums will remain open to the public free of charge.

As part of the celebrations, the Bangladesh Navy will open several of its ships for public visits from 12 noon to 4 pm at various locations. BNS Chithra will be displayed at Dhaka Sadarghat, BNS Atandra at Pagla Naval Jetty in Narayanganj, BNS Samuddra Obhijan at New Mooring Naval Berth-2 in Chattogram, BNS Oparejyo at BIWTA Launch Terminal in Khulna, BNS Dholeshwari at Digraj Naval Berth in Mongla, BNS Padma at Marine Workshop Jetty in Barishal, and BNS Shaheed Farid at BIWTA Ghat in Chandpur.

Bangladesh embassies and missions worldwide will also organize special programs, including discussions and cultural events, to highlight the significance of the day. With a blend of patriotism, cultural programs, and tributes, the nation is set to honor the legacy of March 26, 1971, reaffirming its commitment to the values of freedom, justice, and national unity.
