What was supposed to be a journey to Cyprus for a better life has turned into a nightmare for Jashore’s Jafar Hossain, who is now trapped in the Russia-Ukraine war. Victimized by human traffickers, Jafar was deceived into traveling to Russia, where he has been forced into combat against Ukraine.

Jafar’s father, Khairul Sardar, revealed that his son left home five months ago, paying BDT 9 lakh to a Dhaka-based agency for migration to Cyprus. Instead, he was first taken to Saudi Arabia, then Dubai, and eventually sold off to Russia. Initially told he would work as a cleaner, Jafar was later sent to the battlefield. In a recent phone call, he begged his family to help him escape, warning that he would not survive much longer.

His wife, Khadija Khatun, is devastated, pleading with the Bangladeshi government to bring him home. Meanwhile, his parents have filed an appeal with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hoping for urgent intervention before it’s too late.
