“Dr. Shahdat Hossain, former convener of the Chattogram City BNP, has become virtually certain to take the oath of office as the new mayor on the upcoming Sunday or Monday, following the Election Commission’s publication of an amended gazette subsequent to a court verdict.
Dr. Shahdat Hossain’s personal secretary, Maruful Haque Chowdhury, and Md. Idris Ali, who is in charge of the Chattogram City BNP , have confirmed this information.
According to reliable sources, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives issued this amended notification on Thursday (October 17). The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Mahbuba Aerin, removed Chattogram City Corporation from the notification issued on August 19 regarding the appointment of administrators for Bangladesh’s city corporations.
In light of the amended notification, it is understood that there are no more obstacles to Dr. Shahdat Hossain taking the oath of office as mayor. Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are underway for the upcoming Sunday or Monday, according to reliable sources.
It has also been learned that AF Hasan Arif, an adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, will administer the oath to him.
