A maximum 2-year term for interim government is preferred by 53% of voters :

According to 53% of voters, the term of an interim government should be two years or less, while 47% believe it should be three years or more. This information comes from research conducted by the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) at North South University. The research findings were presented at an event held at the National Press Club on Wednesday.

 

The survey was conducted among 1,869 individuals from 17 districts across 8 divisions. Of the respondents, 96% believe that the Prime Minister’s term should be limited, 46% think constitutional changes are necessary, and 16% support drafting a new constitution. The majority of respondents (63%) were middle-aged (28-50 years), 22% were from Generation-Z (18-27 years), and 14% were over 50 years old. Additionally, 54% of the respondents were from urban areas, while 46% were from rural areas. Regarding political affiliation, 46% were uncertain about their connection to political parties, whereas 54% expressed interest in mainstream politics.

 

Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, the head of the Electoral System Reform Commission and secretary of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), was the chief guest at the seminar. Other discussants included SIPG advisor Professor Salahuddin M. Aminuzzaman and Professor Naveen Murshid from the Department of Political Science and Sociology (PSS) at NSU. Dr. Akram Hossain, Assistant Professor at SIPG and PSS at NSU, presented the survey results. The event was moderated by Mahbubur Rahman, a member of SIPG’s CMS, NSU chairman, and professor of history and philosophy.
