A series of coordinated attacks have been reported on the homes of several senior Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders in Chattogram, Bangladesh. Among the victims were Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, Vice Chairman Meer Mohammad Nasir Uddin, and former convener of the city committee, Shahdat Hossain. These attacks involved vandalism and arson, with vehicles parked near the residences being set on fire.

The incidents occurred on Saturday night between 8 pm and 9 pm. BNP leaders have accused the ruling party’s student wing, Chhatra League, and youth wing, Jubo League, of perpetrating these attacks.

Shahdat Hossain, one of the victims, reported that a large group of Chhatra League and Jubo League activists stormed his residence on Badsha Mia Road. They vandalized his property and even damaged the door. Hossain was not at home at the time of the attack but expressed deep concern for his ailing mother who was present. Additionally, the attackers set fire to around 10-12 vehicles parked near his residence, causing panic among the residents of the nearby apartment building.

Similar attacks were reported on the homes of Ershad Ullah, the convener of the city BNP, in Panchlaish, and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in Mehedibag. Eyewitnesses reported multiple incidents of cocktails being thrown in the Golpahar to Mehedi area during the attacks on Chowdhury’s residence.

Amir Khasru’s personal assistant, Mohammad Selim, confirmed the attack and stated that the attackers vandalized the residence, set it on fire, and threw cocktails. He added that Khasru was currently in prison.

Walli Uddin Akbar, the Officer-in-Charge of Chak Bazar Police Station, confirmed receiving reports of a fire incident near Amir Khasru’s residence and stated that police were present at the scene.

Meer Helal Uddin, the joint organizing secretary of the BNP’s Chattogram division, stated that his father, Meer Nasir Uddin, was present at their residence in Chatteswari when a group of Chhatra League and Jubo League activists attacked their home. They vandalized two Pajero cars parked in front of the house.

Imran Ahmed, the president of Chattogram City Chhatra League, denied any involvement in the attacks. He claimed that his organization was currently stationed at the residence of Education Minister Mahbubul Hasan Chowdhury, whose home had also been attacked. Ahmed asserted that Chhatra League was against any form of violence.

These attacks came shortly after similar incidents were reported at the residences of Education Minister Mahbubul Hasan Chowdhury and Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury. Additionally, the office of Member of Parliament Mohammad Mahiuddin Bacchu was vandalized and set on fire.
