Cyclone Remal claim 21 lives in country .

Due to the impact of ‘Cyclone Remal’ in the country, tidal water has broken the dams in different areas of the coast and entered the localities. Raw houses, walls, and trees have collapsed in the storm. A total of 21 deaths were reported – 4 in Dhaka, 3 in Bhola, 3 in Barishal, 3 in Patuakhali, 3 in Chattogram, and one each in Khulna, Satkhira, Lalmonirhat, Barguna, Kushtia and Cumilla.

At least 21 people died in 10 districts including the capital Dhaka till Tuesday (May 28) morning.

Dhaka

Like other districts of the country, heavy rains have been lashed in the capital Dhaka due to the impact of Cyclone Remal. In this, four died in electrocution.

The deceased are – Maryam Begum, 45, Liza Akhter, 15, Md. Rakib, 25, and Al-Amin, 22.

They died in four separate incidents of electrocution in Khilgaon, Uttar Badda, and Jatrabari in the capital Dhaka on Monday (May 27) night.

It is reported the deaths occurred due to the touching of tin fences and electric poles, entangled with electric wires and charging battery-powered auto-rickshaws.

Confirming the death of three due to electrocution, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Police Outpost Inspector Bachchu Mia said the concerned police station has been informed about the three incidents.

Meanwhile, on his way home from work in North Badda, Al-Amin died after getting caught in an electric wire lying on the road.

Bachchu Mia said the body has been kept in the hospital’s emergency department. The matter was reported to the Badda police station in the night.

Barishal 

In Barishal, three people lost their lives due to the rampage of Cyclone Remal.

Two people were killed when a wall of a multi-storey building collapsed in the Rupatali area in ​​Barishal city early Monday morning. In this, one was injured.

Police say four people were staying in the restaurant. Two employees including the owner of the restaurant were sleeping at that time. Due to the intensity of the wind, a part of the wall of the adjacent four-storey building collapsed.

Hotel owner Lokman and employee Moksedul were killed on the spot. Employee Shakib was injured. He has been admitted to Sher-e Bangla Medical.

Moreover, Jalal Sikder, 55, a resident of Char Darial of Bakerganj Upazila, died after being crushed by a tree branch.

Bhola

Three people including children died in three upazilas of Bhola due to Cyclone Remal.

Among them, a woman named Maneja Khatun died after being crushed in the house. Maneja Khatun is the wife of Abdul Quader, a resident of Char Umed village of Lalmohan upazila.

Locals said that Maneja Khatun was sleeping in her house with one of her grandsons at night. She lost her life on the spot when their tin-shed house collapsed in the stormy wind.

Besides, a child named Maisha, 4, died after being collapsed under a house at the Daulatkhan in the district.

Maisha is the daughter of Md. Monir Hossain of ward no. 2 in Daulatkhan municipality.

It is learned that child Maisha was sleeping with her parents at night. In the early morning, a tree fell next to the house due to the storm. Maisha was crushed and died on the spot. Three more members of the family were injured in the incident.

Besides, a man named Jahangir Hossain, 50, died when a tree branch fell on him at the Sajra Union in Borhanuddin Upazila.

Bhola DC Arifuzzaman confirmed the truth of the incidents.

Lalmonirhat

An elder named Rezia Begum, 72, died after being crushed by a tree in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat. The accident took place at the Mohishtuli village of Bhelabari union of the upazila on Monday (May 27) night. She is the wife of Taher Uddin Munsi of that village.

Bhelabari UP member Jamser Ali said that there was a storm with rain after Monday evening. At this time, the dry mocha of corn was soaking. Elder Rezia Begum came out of the house to protect it. During the storm, a betel nut tree fell on her and she died on the spot.

Satkhira

On Sunday (May 26) evening, an elder named Shawkat Moral died on his way to Napitkhali Shelter in Gabura Union of Shyamnagar Upazila in Satkhira.

Deceased Shawkat Moral is the son of the deceased Narim Moral of Napitkhali village in Gabura Union. Gabura UP Chairman GM Masudul Alam confirmed this.

Patuakhali

Three people died in Patuakhali due to Cyclone Remal. Among them, an elder named Zainal Howladar was killed after being crushed by a tree in Dumki upazila due to strong winds. It is learned that Zainal Howladar is a resident of ward no. 9 Naldwani Sluisgate area in the Pangashia union of the Upazila.

In Bauphal, a pedestrian named Md. Abdul Karim was killed due to the cyclonic storm. The accident took place in front of the Upazila Parishad gate around 11 am. The deceased is a resident of Nazirpur Union of the upazila. That afternoon, a youth named Sharif Howladar lost his life in the sea current while trying to save his sister and aunt from the flooded area due to Cyclone Remal in the Kawarchar area of ​​Dulaser Union in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali.

Cumilla

A 5th-grader student named Saiful Islam Sagar, 12, was killed when the wall of a nearby under-constructed building collapsed while he was attending classes at Noagaon Choumuhani area in ​​Sadar Dakshin Upazila of the district.

The accident occurred on Monday (May 27) around 10:45 am. Sadar South Model Police Inspector (Investigation) Khademul Bahar confirmed this.

Khulna 

A youth named Lalchand Moral, 36, died after a tree fell on his house in Batiaghata upazila of the district due to Cyclone Remal. The incident took place on Sunday (May 26) night at Gaughara Goriardanga village of ward no. 2 in Surkhali Union of the upazila. Lalchand Moral is the son of Gahar Moral of Goriardanga village. He was engaged in agriculture.

Surkhali UP chairman SK Zakir Hossain and local UP member SM Farid Rana confirmed the matter.

Chattogram 

Two people died in Chattogram city.

A pedestrian named Saiful Islam Hridoy was crushed to death when a wall collapsed in the textile area of ​​Bayezid police station in Chattogram city in the morning.

Locals said Saiful Islam Hridoy took shelter next to a wall during heavy rain. He was crushed to death when the wall suddenly collapsed. On receiving information, the fire service recovered his body.

Bayezid fire station senior station officer Md. Kamruzzaman confirmed this.

Apart from this, an unidentified youth died after drowning in a canal in the Kotwali police station area in ​​the city. The incident took place at the Chaktai Canal in Asadgonj Shutkipatti police station.

About this, the Sub-Inspector (SI) of CMCH Hospital Police Outpost Nurul Alam Ashek said that locals brought a drowned person to the hospital in the afternoon. Later, the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Kushtia

An elder named Badsha Mallik, 60, died after being crushed under a tin shed in Kushtia’s Mirpur during Cyclone Remal. The incident took place at the Daspara area of ​​Chithalia Union of the upazila around 10:30 am on Monday. The deceased Badsha Mallik is the son of the late Khabir Mallick of the Daspara area of ​​Ward No. 3 in Chithalia Union.

Chithlia UP Chairman Enamul Haque Bablu confirmed this.

Barguna

A man named Abdur Rahman Bayati, 56, died while removing a tree that fell on his house in Sadar Upazila of Barguna district. He is the son of the late Khuti Bayati of Lemua Village, Ward No. 4, Ayala Patakata Union. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shamim Mia confirmed this.

Mentioned that the severe cyclonic storm ‘Remal’ formed in the Bay of Bengal and wreaked havoc on the coast. The storm’s impact began on  Sunday afternoon, and the center of the storm began to hit the coast at night. After that, many houses were damaged and trees were uprooted due to the impact of Remal. High tides were created by the cyclone. Embankments have broken in many areas. About 3 crore people suffered power outages. Lakhs of people without internet connection. A total of 19 districts have been affected. The number of affected upazilas is 107 and the number of unions and municipalities is 914.
