Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, “I have decided from today—no helmet, no fuel. From today on, no oil will be given to any motorcycle without a helmet.”

He said this at the first meeting of the advisory council formed under the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority Act 2017 on Wednesday (May 15) morning.

Obaidul Quader said, “There have been many accidents before and after Eid. These are not the ministers, but we are suffering as people. Motorcycles and autorickshaws are the main cause of death in road accidents in our country. There are 7 to 8 people in an autorickshaw. In an accident, everyone in the autorickshaw dies. And motorcycles are another nuisance.”

Obaidul Quader said, “When there is an accident, no one says anything to anyone. I have to listen. No one tells me what the BRTA chairman is doing; everyone tells me.”

Expressing anger, he said, How can a 20-year-old bus ply on the road? If order is not restored on the road, accidents will never decrease.

Obaidul Quader said that today there are beautiful roads from the plains to the mountains, but even though there are so many roads, order does not come. Kader also questioned the teamwork of those concerned.

At that time, the president of the Road Transport and Labor Federation, Shahjahan Khan, recommended the complete destruction of expired and expensive vehicles instead of dumping them.
