The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested chief coordinator of the Kuki-Chin National Front, also known as the Bawm Party, from his house in a special operation in Bandarban on Sunday following attacks on three banks in two upazilas of the district.
The arrestee was Cheusim Bawm, 55, son of Late Roal Khub Bawm of Sharan Para in Bandarban. He is one of the chief coordinators of the organisation’s central committee.
RAB-15 commander Lt Col HM Sazzad Hossain in a press briefing at RAB office at around 3:30pm said the elite force conducted a raid at the house of Cheosim Bom at Suwalok union of Bandarban Sadar upazila early Sunday and arrested him.
They said he was hiding inside an iron locker at his house. . It was locked from the outside. The elite force broke the locker and arrest him.
During the drive, RAB also recovered two firearms from a hilly area in Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
However, it is not yet known whether the recovered firearms are those looted on April 2 from the police and Ansar members engaged in the security of Sonali Bank in Ruma upazila.
RAB will provide more details later, they said.
