Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil’s bench passed the order after hearing a writ petition on Tuesday (April 2).
The court gave the authorities concerned four weeks to explain why it would not declare the inaction of the administration in stopping the cutting down of hills in Sajek illegal.
It also asked them to explain why the court would not order them to take steps to stop hill cutting and restore the damaged hills.
The court asked the administration to form a monitoring team so that no one could cut down hills.
Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) filed the writ on April 1 after the media reported plans by a resort to cut down hills to make space for a swimming pool on March 29.
