State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has emphasised ensuring the safety of gas transmission lines as well as the fair use of gas.

“We’re committed to ensuring smooth and improved services for our gas and electricity consumers. We’re taking various initiatives to ensure uninterrupted power and gas supply,” he said Wednesday (Mar 6) in Chattogram.

The state minister also said if someone gets permission for a residential building but converts it to a hotel or factory, that building won’t get any gas connection.

He said the pre-condition for getting gas connections is proper documentation. “Industries must be set up in the government’s designated areas,” he said while discussing various issues with the Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company (KGDCL).

Nasrul said all gas consumers will be brought under the prepaid meter system. The KGDCL installed 60,000 prepaid meters and installation of another one lakh is underway.

The state-run gas company currently has 602,396 consumers and 3,236 kilometres of gas pipeline.
