The government has issued a notification raising the price of gas for power generation by Tk 0.75 per cubic metre. For captive electricity (captive power plants, small power plants, and commercial power plants), the price of gas per cubic metre will be Tk 14.75.
It said the new tariff would be effective from March 1.
The notification issued Tuesday (Feb 27) said that for electricity (government, IPP and rental power generation plants), the price of gas per cubic metre will be Tk 14.75.
Additionally, for captive electricity (captive power plants, small power plants, and commercial power plants), the price will be Tk 30.75.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid announced the price hike earlier in the day.
He said the government is hiking the price at the wholesale level. It won’t affect household consumers or industries.
But electricity prices were also raised by Tk 0.34 to Tk 0.7 per unit.
“We’ll readjust the prices over the next three years to cut subsidies. The government currently provides Tk 43,000 crore in annual subsidies, which is going up because of dollar prices,” he said.
