Hill cutting is going on day and night in Jalalabad city. Numerous hills of Jalalabad, known as the hilly region, have already been leveled. The few that have survived are also in the process of demolition. Hill cutting was going on for the last few days under the name of Chhayanil Residential Area and Sea Beach Housing.
According to sources, almost the entire Jalalabad area under Khulshi Thana of the city was covered by hills. Numerous buildings have been constructed by cutting the hills of the area. Residential areas with various names have been developed. Land grabbers are eyeing Jalalabad due to rising land prices and various amenities including road facilities. They are cutting mountains day and night to build houses.
Currently, the hill cutting festival is going on in the surrounding areas including Chhayanil Residential Area, Sea Beach Housing. Sources also said that in the absence of effective action to stop hill cutting, open hill cutting and soil selling activities are going on. Two separate teams led by Inspector Monir Hossain and Omar Farooq of the Department of Environment conducted operations to stop the felling of hills.
The people concerned covered their heads when they realized the presence of the Department of Environment. 6 people named Mohammad Azim Chowdhury, Mohammad Monir Hossain, Momtazur Rahman, Mohammad Jahangir, Mila, Helal have been summoned to the Directorate of Environment.
