The lease of six markets including Chawkbazar raw market has been canceled due to non-payment of Chittagong City Corporation.

The revenue department of the city corporation has confirmed this information. The process of re-leasing the markets is also underway, said the revenue department.

The six markets whose leases have been canceled are Bahaddarhat, Chawkbazar, Postarpar, Sagarika Garu Bazar, Kazir Hat and Abdul Mabud Sawadagar Hat.

According to city corporation sources, tenders were invited for the market lease in March last year and submission of the market lease price by April 4 was mandatory. Yet the lessees did not deposit the rent.

Chief Revenue Officer of the City Corporation. Nazrul Islam said, “The lease of six markets has been canceled due to non-payment of the lease price.”

Meanwhile, even though the lease was cancelled, local businessmen said that the lessee’s money was withdrawn on Wednesday (January 31) in Chowkbazar.
