Chittagong Metropolitan BNP convenor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Mirza Abbas and Shahjahan Omar were arrested in connection with the attack on the Chief Justice’s residence. But the government pressured Shahjahan Omar to convince him to join the Awami League overnight. He was made MPO in the election. Our question, which direction the judiciary is running? If the judiciary acts unilaterally, where will the common people go? Our demand is that the state machinery should not be transformed into a party’s own force but should adhere to their framework.

He said these things in a press conference organized on behalf of Chittagong Metropolitan BNP at the party office at Kazi Deuri Nasimon Bhavan in the city on Wednesday (January 17) afternoon.

The last twelfth national parliament election is one of the least voted elections in the history of Dr. Shahadat Hossain said that there were widespread irregularities in this election. Instead of voting festival, a silent protest of boycotting of voting has emerged in Chittagong.

Referring to the position of the candidates in three constituencies of Chittagong city, he said that the candidates have tried to bring voters in these constituencies. But there are 20-26 percent votes. But the voter turnout across the country was shown to be over 41 percent. Where there were no agents there was a festival of fake voting. Through this the casting of votes has been increased.

Commenting on the election as a farce and a joke, Dr. Shahadat said that this is the state of voting even where they themselves have voted. That explains why BNP boycotted this vote.

He said that Chittagong Metropolitan BNP Member Secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, Joint Convenor SK Khoda Totan, Nazimur Rahman, Shah Alam, Convener Committee Member Manjur Alam Chowdhury Monju, Metropolitan Juba Dal President Mosharraf Hossain Dipti, General Secretary Md. BNP leaders and activists of Chandgaon area are being brutally tortured. Chandgaon Thana Police is wrongfully arresting other family members after not finding BNP leaders at their residence. At any time of the day and night, they are raiding houses to catch the activists. Targeted persons are not found at home and their father, brother or other members are wrongfully detained. Arrested activists or their relatives are being taken to the police station and subjected to indescribable torture. Chandgaon Thana area is now mostly empty of men. Ordinary people are not able to stay at home due to the fear of police arrest.

He said that the mentioned leaders including BNP leader Abu Sufian and Ershad Ullah were not present in that day’s program but still they have been made accused. Chandgaon Sharafat Ullah Petrol Pump Manager Jamal Uddin, he was at Boalkhali house that day. He has been made accused number 20. Cashier md. Harun has been made accused number 21. But at the time of the incident, police, RAB, BGB, DB cars were parked inside the petrol pump. There is CCTV footage, everything will be clear.

He said that on Tuesday night on January 9, Chandgaon police raided the residence of Naushad Al Jasedur Rahman, the former vice-president of Chittagong Metropolitan Chhatra Dal, but could not find him.
