The government has deployed 229 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) across the country, including the capital, to maintain law and order and prevent violence, BGB public relations officer Shariful Islam confirmed on Thursday.
He said 32 platoons of BGB were deployed in Dhaka and neighbouring districts, and 197 platoons elsewhere in the country.
On Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Habibul Awal unveiled the 12th parliamentary election scheduled, to be held on January 7, 2024. Several opposing political parties have rejected the poll schedule and called for hartals. In light of such a situation, the BGB platoons were deployed.
