A woman was killed in a police clash with protesting workers in Gazipur’s Konabari. He died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with serious injuries on Wednesday morning.
The woman worker killed is Anjuara Khatun. He is from Char Natipara village in Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj district. Wife of Jamal Hussain.
On Tuesday, the minimum wage was set at 12,500 taka by the owner. Garment workers did not accept it. In protest, they started protesting by blocking the Konabari Kashimpur regional road at 8:30 a.m. today. On receiving information, Shilpa Police, Thana Police, and BGB fired tearshells, sound grenades, and rubber bullets to remove them from the road. At that time, the workers threw bricks at the police. More than half a hundred workers were injured in ‘police firing’. At that time, female laborer Anjuara Khatun (30) was seriously injured by a rubber bullet. He was rescued by colleagues and taken to a local clinic. If the condition worsened there, the doctors advised him to be taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Anjuara Khatun died on the way to Dhaka.
In this regard, Anjuara Khatun’s husband, Jamal Hossain, said that his wife was hit by a rubber bullet. He died on the way to Dhaka Medical College.
AKM Ashraf Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gazipur Metropolitan’s Konabari Police Station, said, “The workers set fire to regional roads and blocked them. Vandalism too. Later, tear gas and sound grenades were thrown to control the situation. Some were injured. And we received the news of the death of the female worker.
