A Dhaka court has placed BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas on five-day remand in a case filed under sabotage and explosives substances act with Shahjahanpur Police Station in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order on Wednesday rejecting bail petition.

Earlier in the day, police produced the senior BNP leader before the court and pleaded to place him on five-day remand in the case.

Abbas was arrested on Tuesday night from his Shahjahanpur home in the city.

Sub-inspector Mostafizur Rahman of Shahjahanpur Police Station filed the case against Mirza Abbas and 48 others on October 29. Some 700 to 800 unnamed people were made accused in the case.
