The Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on Thursday sentenced internationally acclaimed human rights defender Adilur Rahman Khan and rights organisation Odhikar director ASM Nasiruddin to two-year imprisonment in a case filed against them under Information and Communication Technology Act 2006.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.

The tribunal judge AM Julfikar Hayat pronounced the verdict at about 2:10pm.

Representatives from the foreign missions, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and noted academicians and rights activists, including CR Abrar, and Mohammad Nur Khan, were present at the courtroom during the hearing.

Representatives from different media houses were also seen standing outside the courtroom.

Police filed the case against the duo on charge of publishing a fact-finding report on Odhikar’s website about the number of deaths during the police drive against Hefazat-e-Islam activists at Shapla Chattar in Dhaka in May 5-6, 2013.
