The BNP and its allies will say that the election was fair only if the Awami League is defeated, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Tuesday.

“If Awami League wins, they (BNP) will never accept defeat,” he said, at a peace rally organized at Hazaribagh Bazar ground in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League organized the peace rally to protest against BNP, Jamaat’s terrorism, militancy, anarchy, unhealthy politics and continued anti-national conspiracy.

About the upcoming general elections, the road transport and bridges minister said, whether BNP comes or not, the election will be held on time as per the constitution.

“The rules of the constitution will not wait for anyone,” he said.

“We all know where the conspiracy is taking place. There’s no point in having a nightmare for 1/11’s caretaker,” said the AL leader.

The road transport and bridges minister said, “The election will be held as per the constitution. We want to see if the US visa policy prevents those who obstruct the election.”

“We don’t want them to bring fire, vandalize, uproot railway lines, set fire to land offices. The people of Bangladesh want peace and comfort,” he said.

Awami League presidium member Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Advocate Kamrul Islam, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, spoke at the rally, among others.
