Khandaker Golam Faruq, the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, suggested that the assault on the fire service headquarters appeared to be a premeditated attack. He made these remarks while answering questions from journalists during the Dhaka Debate for Democracy program held at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on Saturday (April 8) at noon.

According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, a group of individuals engaged in scattered acts of vandalism at the fire service headquarters located near Bangabazar. As a result of their actions, the office, and several cars were damaged. Upon reviewing the video footage, it was found that many of the individuals who were arrested shared similar facial features to those seen in the footage. The suspects are currently being held in custody and undergoing questioning.

The Police Commissioner has stated that he intends to gather further information by interrogating the arrested suspects in connection with the fire service attack. Additionally, he has opened up the possibility that there may be a different group or perspective behind the incident, which will also be investigated during the suspects’ remand. The Commissioner has promised to update the public as more information becomes available.

Furthermore, the Commissioner has revealed that he learned through the media that a multi-storied building was planned for the site where the fire broke out in Bangabazar. He noted that there is a conflict between some businessmen who are opposed to multi-storied buildings in the area. The fire service and the home ministry have established an investigative committee to determine the cause of the fire, and they are currently conducting their investigation.
