Total 1 thousand illegal gas connections have been disconnected in Sonargaon of Narayanganj. The authorities of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company cut off the illegal gas connections of various villages and mahallas and gas connections of 7 hotels and restaurants in Meghna industrial area of the upazila from Thursday morning to noon. At this time, the pipe line used in the illegal connection was removed in a two kilometer area.

Executive Magistrate Elora Yasmin of Narayanganj District Commissioner’s office managed the mobile court. In this direction, the villagers protested against the disconnection of the illegal gas connection. Later the police went and took the situation under control.

Moniruzzaman, manager of Titas Gas Meghnaghat region, said that 7 hotels, restaurants and residents of Ganganagar, Nayachar, Newtown villages have been cooking with illegal gas connections for a long time in Meghna Newtown area of Sonargaon. As a result of illegal gas connection, the residents of this area have been defrauding the government of about Tk 1 crore in revenue for the past 10 years. So far the residents of this area have lost about 10 crores in revenue due to illegal gas connection. He said that illegal gas disconnection operations will continue in the entire upazila.

A large number of policemen including Tanveer Hasan and Atiqul Islam, Meghnaghat region engineers of Titus Gas Transmission and Distribution Company were present during the operation.
