The explosion was first reported to the fire service at 4:50 pm, and five units of fire service and civil defense promptly responded to the scene, according to Fire Service Public Relations Officer Shahjahan Shikder. The rescue teams are still working to extinguish the blaze and secure the area, as it is feared that the death toll may rise.
The DMC Hospital has admitted more than a hundred people who were injured in the explosion, with several in critical condition. Eyewitnesses reported that locals rushed to the scene to transport the injured to the hospital in their personal vehicles.
