Debate promotes critical thinking among people : Dr Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has commented that debate develops the reasoning skills of people as well as proficiency in using standard language. She said, debate teaches people to think, inspires fine thought. Creates the ability to consider a subject from multiple perspectives.

The minister said this at the 15th debate festival organized by the National Debate Federation of Bangladesh (NDF) at Shishu Academy in the capital on Friday.

Education Minister said, ‘Debate clubs are being tried to be developed at school level to expand debate practice across the country. This will lead to a generation that respects dissent. Debate plays a helpful role in the rational man we seek to create.’

At the event, the Education Minister was awarded the NDF Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contribution to debate. After the inauguration ceremony, a policy debate was held with the participation of Education Minister, Vice-Chancellors of four universities, columnist Subhash Singh Roy and Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saddam Hussain.

University Grants Commission Chairman Dr. Kazi Shahidullah, Development Chief Executive Kamal Qadir, Media Personality Faridur Reza Sagar, NDF President AKM Shoaib were present on the occasion among others.
