8 hurt in Ctg gas pipeline explosion

 Eight people were injured in a septic tank explosion apparently from leakage in a gas pipeline near Maqbul Haji’s residence at city’s Balirhat area early Thursday.

The injured are – Mamuna Akhtar, 60, Dolly Akhtar, 35, Jochna Akhtar, 18, Mahim, 10, Nurnahar Begum, 50, Rina Akhtar, 16, Hriday, 17 and Labani, 10. The injured persons are being taken treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Bahar Uddin, senior station officer of Kalurghat Fire Station, said the explosion occurred leakaging in the gas line went into the septic tank in a semi-pukka building in the area near the residence of one Makbul Haji around 3 am.

At least eight people were injured when the wall of that semi-puka house was blown away during the explosion and a nearby building collapsed, he said.

On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and rescued the injured victims.

Terming the rescue operation is over SI Rezaul Karim of Chandgaon thana said the explosion occurred in the septic tank explosion at a semi-pukka building in the area under Chandgaon thana, leaving eight people injured.

The injured people were rescued and taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, he said.
