The price of broiler chicken has crossed Tk 200 per kg in the capital’s market. The chicken was sold at Tk 210 in different markets on Thursday. In just three weeks, the price of broiler chicken has increased by Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg.
The price of golden chicken is also increasing at almost the same rate. Yesterday, golden chicken was sold at Tk 300-310 per kg. Egg prices have also gone up. Chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 140 per dozen farms. But if you buy a hali, the price is 50 taka.
Retailers say that never before has broiler chicken been sold for more than Tk 200. The price is rising mainly due to the decrease in the supply of chicken in the market. Consumers say that if the price increases in this way, the price will increase further in the upcoming Ramadan, broiler chicken will also go out of their purchasing power.
Broiler chicken is available in the market at a much lower price than other meats. For this reason, ‘cheap meat’ broiler chicken is the main source of meeting the demand for meat of low-income people. Since the middle of last month, the price of this chicken started increasing.
Regarding the increase in the price of chicken, Amjad Hossain, a businessman of M/s Ma Ayesha Broiler House of Kitchen Market in Karwan Bazar, told yesterday, “We are not getting chicken from the farmers according to the demand even after increasing the price.
Many farmers do not rear chickens because of the high incidence of chicken disease in the winter. As a result, there is a shortage in the market now. So the price is rising. ’
