Approximately 5,000 fake births have been registered by hacking Chittagong City Corporation’s server. This information was obtained during the interrogation of four persons arrested in the case of 548 fake registrations in five wards of Chittagong City. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Manzur Morshed of the Counter Terrorism Department gave this information at CMP’s media center on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, three of the four arrestees gave a confessional statement yesterday afternoon in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Mehnaz Rahman. The four arrested are Abdur Rahman Arif (25), Delwar Hossain Simon (23), Mostakim (22), and a 16-year-old juvenile. Their house is at 40 North Patenga Ward.

Apart from the police, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) also launched an investigation into the fake birth registration yesterday. The councilors of the respective wards said that they went to the office of ward number 11 and 13 yesterday. ACC Chittagong-1 assistant director Faisal Quader said that various documents have been collected from the office of the councillor.

Anwar Hossain, the birth registration assistant of Pahartali Ward No. 13, filed a case at Khulshi Police Station as a plaintiff in the case of fake birth registration. Later that night, Counter Terrorism Unit arrested four people from the Khalpar Pocketgate area of Patenga police station and arrested them in the case.

Arrested Abdur Rahman Arif is the owner of a shop named ‘Arif Computer and Studio’ in the Patenga Khalpar area. Simon has a computer training center named ‘SM Computer’ in the EPZ Narkeltala area. Mostakim and the 16-year-old used the computers of these institutions to register fake births, said Counter Terrorism officials.
