A woman died from Nipah virus infection after consuming raw date juice in Rajshahi last week.
The matter was disclosed at a conference titled “Winter Infectious Diseases and Nipah Virus Transmission” organised by the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Wednesday.
Earlier in 2022, Bangladesh registered three cases of the Nipah virus. Two of the infectees are reported dead.
Fruit bats are considered to be natural host of Nipah virus.
At the conference, IEDCR director Dr Tahmina Shirin urged all not to consume raw date juice or any half-eaten fruit to avoid risks of the virus infection.
