Kabir Ahmed previously used to sell arms to the new militant organization Jamaatul Ansar Fil Hindal. After that, he gradually became an active member of the organization, said the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of the police.

The other two arrested by this law enforcement agency are Yasin and Abdur Rahman, one of the associates of Shamim Mahfuz, the fugitive ‘mastermind’ of Sharqiya.

Head of CTTC Asaduzzaman said that Kabir was arrested from Naikhongchari; Yasin and Abdur Rahman were arrested from Kadmatoli in Bandarban on Sunday. Three pistols, 6 single-barreled guns, 11 rounds of bullets, 140 rounds of bullets, and raw materials and IED equipment were recovered.

The head of CTTC said,” On December 21, two members of Sharqiya, Saiful Islam Tuhin, and Naeem Hossain, were arrested from remote areas of Chittagong Hill Tracts. Based on the information given by them and the intelligence report, the name of Kabir Ahmed, the organization’s arms supplier is identified. He was later arrested by the CTTC. Later on, Kabir Based on the information received from him, raids were conducted in the remote hilly areas of Naikshyongchari in Bandarban to recover arms and ammunition.”

Citing Kabir’s interrogation, CTTC chief Asaduzzaman said that he had supplied arms to the militant organization Jamaatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya. There were plans to supply some of the recovered weapons to separatist groups. There is a weapons case against him in Naikhyongchari police station of Bandarban district. Shamim Mahfuz contacted Kabir to buy weapons. Gradually Kabir himself became a member of this organization. Shamim Mahfuz’s associates Yasin and Abdur Rahman were captured after receiving information from him.
