The lawyers of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party’s Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas are going to apply for bail in the High Court after failing to seek bail in four rounds in the lower court.

Their lawyer Zainul Abedin told , ‘The process of bail application is going on. Some documents are missing. Hope to apply tomorrow.

This lawyer said that the application may be heard in the high court bench of Justice Md Salim and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan. Lawyers Kaiser Kamal, Kamrul Islam Sajal, Sagir Hossain Leon are with the senior lawyers in the bail application process.

One person was killed and hundreds were injured in a clash between the police and the BNP leaders and activists who had gathered in Nayapaltan on December 7 amid anxiety and excitement over the BNP’s divisional assembly and location in Dhaka on December 10.

Alleging that hand grenades were thrown from the central office of BNP, the police raided that office. Hundreds of activists including some central leaders were arrested. Although Fakhrul was not arrested that day, he was arrested from his house the next night, Mirza Abbas was also arrested the same night.

The next day, on December 9, they were arrested and sent to court in the case of assault and incitement on the police. Bail was applied for in the court but it was rejected and sent to jail. Then on December 12, their bail application was rejected.
