Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal called for strengthening bilateral cooperation with Malaysia.
A bilateral meeting of Malaysian Deputy Finance Ministers/Representatives was held as part of the annual meeting at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) headquarters in Manila on Wednesday (September 28). The Finance Minister made this call in the meeting.
Mustafa Kamal said, upward trade exists between Bangladesh and Malaysia. In FY 2020-21, Bangladesh’s export to Malaysia was US$ 306 million and import from Malaysia was US$ 1.57 billion. Bangladesh and Malaysia are celebrating 50 years of brotherly diplomatic relations.
The finance minister said that Bangladesh is certainly grateful for the Malaysian government’s decision to open the opportunity to employ Bangladeshi workers in all sectors of the economy. He also requested the Malaysian government to export more manpower.
He said, we are also very happy with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the import of LNG from Malaysia. Hopefully this will pave the way for more commercial/economic engagement between the two friendly countries. We request the Malaysian government to import LNG as per requirement. Malaysia is an important source country for our FDI.
FDI stock from Malaysia stood at USD 788 million till September 2022, mainly in the telecom sector. Bangladesh is an attractive destination for FDI in terms of financial and other benefits.
