Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced tha hawkers will not be allowed to sit on the important roads marked red from next week, DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said.
“We will no longer allow hawkers to sit on the red-marked roads. We will start the drive to remove hawkers from these critical areas,” he said after laying the foundation stone of the 10-storey Bangabandhu Avenue Bipani Bitan on Wednesday.
The city corporation will start marking roads from Sunday.
As per its plan, roads will be marked as red, yellow and green based on importance.
“We will mark specific roads from next week. Only the most important roads will be marked as red. Comparatively, less important roads will be marked as yellow and green,” Taposh said.
He said: “We are taking a new step to rehabilitate the hawkers in the 10-storey market. Construction work of the market will be completed in two years.”
