Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said one of the most important factors for better physical and mental health is knowing about sexual and reproductive rights.

She was speaking at the National Workshop on Generation Breakthrough Project (Phase II) at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium on Wednesday.

She added that sexual and reproductive health awareness allows people to take decisions together through mutual respect rather than imposing decisions on each other. In addition to reducing gender inequality, the practice will promote the growth of a healthy and prosperous society, she stated.

Speaking as the chief guest, the education minister also said that if correct information can be made available to teenagers, they can be kept away from many problems.

She added that teenagers undergo mental and physical changes that many people are unaware of. At the same time, given the lack of resources, they come by a great deal of misinformation that affects both their present and their future.

It also leads to gender-based violence, she added.

The education minister urged those involved with Generation Breakthrough Project to share their learning experience so that more people are made aware of sexual and reproductive health.
