Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basad) sees the abnormal increase in the price of fuel oil by Tk 5 as a joke of the government with the people. The organization demanded to fix the price immediately before (before August 5).
Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal Central Committee General Secretary Bajlur Rashid Feroze made this demand on Tuesday (August 30).He said, after increasing the price, diesel and kerosene are being sold at 114 taka per liter, after reducing the price by 5 taka, it will be sold at 109 taka. Octane is selling at Tk 135 per litre, it will come down to Tk 130. Petrol is being sold at Tk 130, it will be reduced to Tk 125. On August 5, the government increased the prices of all types of fuel abnormally, citing the increase in prices in the global market, losses of BPC and fuel oil smuggling. Along with this, public transport fares and commodity prices were increased.
Bajlur Rashid Feroze said, it is now proven that the price of oil in the world market is on the downward trend and if the discrepancy in BPC’s financials (as stated by the parliamentary committee) is removed, it is possible to reduce the price of fuel oil. The government’s announcement to reduce the price of fuel by 5 rupees per liter in the name of alleviating public discontent is a joke with the people and a new way to increase the benefits of businessmen. This price cut will not reduce transport fares but will only increase the profits of transport owners and reduce government revenue.
He also said that this policy of increasing the price in one fell swoop and reducing it little by little is basically the policy of businessmen. It does not benefit the people but only increases the profit of the traders.
At that time, he demanded to reduce the prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane and fix the prices before August.
