A female student of private BRAC University committed suicide by jumping from the roof of a 10-storey building in Mollartek area under Dakshinkhan Thana of the capital. She is a third semester student of English Department of BRAC University.
Dakshinkhan Thana police confirmed that the student committed suicide on Saturday (August 27) around 12:30 pm.
According to Dakshinkhan police sources, the girl had written a suicide note against her father Shaheen Islam before committing suicide.
In the suicide note, he wrote, ‘My father is responsible for my death. Can live with animals in a house. But not with Inhumans. A tyrannical rapist who doesn’t even spare his maid. I am the beginning of his miserable fate.’
Confirming the matter, Inspector (Investigation) of Dakshinkhan police station Azizul Haque Miah told Dhaka Post that we initially learned that he committed suicide by jumping from the roof at around 12:30 pm on Saturday. At first the family wanted to hide the matter without telling anyone. They first took him injured to Bangladesh Medical College, Uttara. The girl died on the road while being taken to the crippled hospital as the hospital authorities did not keep it there. Later his mother brought the body to the police station in the afternoon. Later, the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.He said that the girl had written a suicide note against her father Shaheen Islam before committing suicide. In the suicide note, the girl accused her father of being a rapist. We are verifying the suicide note. The girl’s father is absconding since the incident. We are trying to arrest him.
He also said that no case has been filed in this incident so far.
According to Dakshinkhana sources, the victim lived in a flat in Mollartek area of Dakshinkhan along with his mother and younger brother. The flat was bought by the victim’s uncle.
5-6 months ago the victim came to know that her father had another marriage 5 years ago. The relationship between the victim’s parents deteriorated greatly on this issue. In this situation, the victim’s mother divorced her father.
It is also known that even after the divorce, Shaheen Islam used to travel to the victim’s house. Since the victim had no financial means to run the family, her father used to pay paisa regularly even after the divorce. Recently the victim asked his father for the semester fee, but Shaheen Islam could not pay it.
