Israel attacked the occupied West Bank of Palestine. Two Palestinians were killed. One of the dead was the commander of a local armed militia. Another 40 people were injured in this incident.
The casualties occurred in an attack by Israeli forces during a raid on a house in Nablus, occupied West Bank, on Tuesday (August 9). The news agency AFP said this information in a report on Tuesday, citing the Israeli army.Israel and the armed group Islamic Jihad announced a ceasefire late Sunday night after three consecutive days of bloody clashes in the besieged Gaza Strip. But before that, 44 Palestinians lost their lives in the Israeli attack. The casualties in Israeli strikes in the West Bank came two days after the worst clashes in more than a year on the Gaza border.
An AFP correspondent said Palestinians engaged in a gunfight with Israeli security forces in the old city of Nablus. Later, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said that at least 40 Palestinians were injured in this Israeli attack. Four of the injured are in critical condition.
On the other hand, the Israeli army said in a statement, “Terrorist Ibrahim Al-Nabulsi was killed in the city of Nablus.” Another terrorist staying at his house also died.AFP says Nabulsi was a commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. The organization is one of the main armed groups in the West Bank operating under the ruling Fatah party.
The news agency claimed that clashes broke out with the Israeli army in other parts of Nablus after Palestinians threw rocks at Israeli soldiers. Dozens of Israeli military vehicles were later brought in to bring the situation under control and the city, one of the largest in the West Bank, was closed to traffic. Heavy gunfire was heard.
The Israeli army said, ‘Clashes started with a number of people after throwing stones and explosives at the army. The security personnel later opened fire to disperse them. Several people were injured in this incident.’
However, no one of the Israeli army was injured in the clash, they said.
