Habibullah Bahar, former economic advisor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) and director of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s main stock market, has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raziun). He was 69 years old at the time of his death. On August 4, he was admitted to the capital’s Lab Aid Hospital after suffering brain damage.
He died on Tuesday (August 9) at around 10:32 am while undergoing treatment at the hospital. This information has been confirmed by DSE.

Habibullah joined Dhaka Stock Exchange as Director on 18 February 2020.
Habibullah Bahar, a former economic advisor to Bangladesh Bank, holds the position of Agrani Bank Chair Professor at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM).
He also served as the Senior Economic Advisor to the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI). He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) and Municipal Development Fund under the Ministry of Finance and the Steering Committee and Investment Committee of Bangladesh Bank. He has over 25 publications in various professional journals (one of which was published by the United Nations in 2002).
Also many publications on finance, banking and finance have been published in different journals from time to time. He has served as a part-time professor on Financial Analysis and Control, International Financial Management, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Managerial Economics, Monitoring Theory and Practice, Bank Management etc. at Bangladesh University, Southeast University, Stamford University, East West University and Independent University Bangladesh.
Habibullah Bahar was born in 1953. He holds BA (Hons) and MA in Economics from Dhaka University. He holds an MA degree from the Center for Development Economics (CDE) at Williams College, USA and a certificate course in Econometrics, Time Series and Financial Analysis from the University of California, Irvine. He is a life member of Bangladesh Economic Association. He participated in several trainings and international seminars in different countries of the world including USA, UK, Japan, Switzerland, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan. As Economic Adviser to the Central Bank, he led the delegation of Bangladesh Bank in discussions on various issues with IMF, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNCTAD, UN-ESCAP and other missions.
