Nafiza Akhter (45), a housewife in Brahmanbaria, died within an hour and a half of her husband. Shahabuddin (55) also went to the land of no return. When his wife Nafiza Akhtar died around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, her body was taken home. Husband Shahabuddin fell ill after seeing his wife’s dead body. He also died around 5 pm after being taken to the hospital.
Shahabuddin is the son of veteran freedom fighter Solaiman Hossain, a retired BGB member of Datiara area of district town. His wife Nafiza died at the private Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital in the district at 3.30 pm and Shahabuddin died at the Brahmanbaria General Hospital at around 5.00 pm. The relatives are preparing to bury the bodies of both of them.Talking to the family and local residents of the deceased couple, Nafiza Akhtar was suffering from kidney disease and Shahabuddin was suffering from heart disease for several days. Nafiza was regularly undergoing dialysis by family members. On the other hand, a week ago, due to heart disease, a ring was placed in Shahabuddin’s heart through surgery. Nafiza fell ill at Datiara’s house today around 2.30 pm. Relatives took him to Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital. Bikash Vanik, the doctor of that hospital, declared him dead at 3:40 PM. After Nafiza’s body was taken home, her husband Shahabuddin also fell ill. When his relatives took him to Brahmanbaria General Hospital for treatment, the doctors of the emergency department of the hospital declared him dead around 5 pm.Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital emergency department doctor Bikash Vanik told Prothom Alo that Nafiza was supposed to undergo dialysis at the hospital tomorrow, Wednesday. The patient was brought to the hospital in an ill condition on Tuesday around 3:30 pm. He was declared dead after an ECG test showed no response.
Shahabuddin’s younger brother lawyer MM Shahadat Hossain confirmed the truth of the incident and told Prothom Alo that the brother also died within one to one and a half hours after the death of the sister. Both of them are being prepared for burial. Their bodies will be buried in the South Maurail cemetery of the district town.
