Sprite has made a huge name among soft drinks around the world. Not only does this drink from the green bottle top the list in terms of thirst quenching, but also in terms of taste. This time, Sprite is going to change the color of the iconic green bottle.
The green bottle that has been around for more than 60 years is now being transformed into a transparent white bottle. Sprite’s parent company Coca-Cola has given this information in a recent statement.
In a statement, the company said, new bottles of Sprite will be available in the market from August 1.
Regarding the decision to change the color of the bottle, Coca-Cola said that the green plastic bottle is made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is usable only once. Clear and transparent plastic is provided for new bottles. It can be reused.
Coca-Cola says the new move will reduce plastic waste by 20 million pounds in 2019.
Working with Coca-Cola Consolidated is a recycling company called R3Cycle. Its CEO says it will help drive a circular economy for plastics.
Sprite’s can and packaging graphics will still be green, even if the bottle changes color. Only its logo will change. The lemon-lime soft drink was first introduced in the United States in 1961.
Cherry and sugar-free flavors of Sprite are already being sold in several countries. Those bottles are not plastic.
