BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced that he will not go to the elections without a non-partisan government. He said, ‘We have said clearly, repeatedly and want to repeat the same today that we will not go to any election under this government.’

Mirza Fakhrul Islam said this during an exchange of views with the media persons at the BNP Chairperson’s office in the capital’s Gulshan on Friday night. Acting chairman of the party Tariq Rahman was virtually involved in the event.

Demanding the resignation of the government, Mirza Fakhrul said, “This government must resign immediately for its failure, for inflicting suffering on the people, for destroying the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bangladesh.”The General Secretary of BNP raised the demand for transfer of power to the neutral government and said that after the resignation of the government, the power should be transferred to the neutral government and the Parliament should be dissolved. At the same time, a representative government of the people should be formed through free, fair and impartial elections through the formation of a new election commission.

The Secretary General of BNP said, ‘Our Acting Chairman has clearly said that if we win the election, we will form a national government with all the parties participating in the movement. That government will identify and solve all the problems to fulfill the aspirations of the people, which will lead to the liberation of the people.’

Not only BNP, the entire nation is passing through a very difficult time today, Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘After 50 years of independence, it seems that we have actually been able to build ourselves as an independent nation? A fascist power has destroyed all our achievements, all democratic institutions. We are saying these words again and again and all our words are being proved today.’Mirza Fakhrul Islam said, ‘When covid happened, I said at that time, measures need to be taken now. We also made several proposals to overcome the economic crisis on behalf of the party. But the government sitting in power by force did not listen to it. Regarding electricity, I have repeatedly said that there is a terrible corruption going on in the Quick Rental Power Plant and the amount of money being spent on generating electricity, it will create extreme pressure on the people. Today those words are being proved.’

Mirza Fakhrul said that all the power plants were built without provision of energy, “today they are taking thousands of crores of taka from us without producing anything. It has been reported in the media that 17 thousand crore rupees have been given to these plants in the last 9 months. Today there is a lot of talk about the lack of gas. It is said that there is no gas, that is why this crisis is being created. So why did they make these investments instead of making arrangements for their own gas extraction?’

BNP Secretary General said, ‘Now these issues have come before the people. Why are you spending lakhs of crores of rupees to create mega projects that are not changing the fate of the people of this country. Meanwhile, poverty has increased by 42 percent in the country and the number of poor people has also increased more than before. Health department, education system is collapsing. The economy is collapsing, the banking sector is collapsing.’Mirza Fakhrul termed these issues as a journey towards total destruction. He said, ‘These issues have appeared as questions before the people today. We all have to decide for that. The answer must be sought. The government that exists today has no accountability. Because they are not elected and have destroyed the electoral system. They want to conduct another election in the same manner as before to absolve the power.’

BNP media cell convener Zahir Uddin Swapan presided over and member secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury also attended the exchange meeting, party standing committee members Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman; Chairperson Advisory Council Member Amanullah Aman, Abdus Salam; Media Cell members Shammi Akhtar, Rumin Farhana, Quader Gani Chowdhury, Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Shayrul Kabir Khan etc.
