Five laborers were killed in the train at Kashiani in Gopalganj. 5 more people were injured. The accident happened on Thursday (July 21) around 9 pm in Kathamdarbast area of Kashiani upazila.
The deceased are Sujan Mridha, Amrit Biswas, Prati Das, Hiraman Biswas and Razzak Biswas. All their homes are in Parulia village of Parulia union of upazila.
The injured have been taken to hospital. At the end of the construction work, those workers were crossing the railway crossing on the platform. At that time Tungipara Express train leaving from Rajshahi hit the train.
Gopalganj Fire Service DAD Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the accident and said that the number of casualties may increase. All the dead are construction workers.
Gopalganj Fire Service, Kashiani Thana Police and locals participated in the rescue operation.
Old man died after being hit by a train
Meanwhile, an old man named Abu Taleb Molla (60) was killed by the Rajshahi-bound Tungipara Express train at Kamarole in Orakandi Union of Kashiani yesterday at around 7:30 am. He is the son of Ishaq Molla of Kamarol village in Orakandi Union.
According to local residents and railway police sources, Abu Taleb was crossing the railway line near the house. At that time he was carelessly buried under the rail. As a result, he died on the spot.
