8 people including Sabrina-Ariful were sentenced to 11 years in prison

The court has sentenced eight people including JKG Healthcare Chairman Doctor Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, her husband Ariful Haque Chowdhury to 11 years imprisonment in the case of giving false report of Corona.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Tofazzal Hossain of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court gave the verdict on Tuesday. Azad Rahman, the public counsel of this court, confirmed this information in Prothom Alo.
The other six convicted are JKG coordinator Saeed Chowdhury, former JKG officer Humayun Kabir, his wife Tanzina Patwari, Biplab Das, Shafiqul Islam and Zebunnesa.

On the occasion of the verdict, Sabrina, Ariful and other accused were brought to the court from the jail.

On August 20, 2020, the court framed charges against eight people including Sabrina, Ariful in the Corona sample fraud case.

Sources related to the court say that 26 out of 40 witnesses have testified in the court.

On June 23, 2020, JKG Healthcare CEO Ariful, employee Humayun Kabir, and his wife Tanzina Patwari were arrested by Tejgaon Police Station on charges of collecting samples of Corona and giving false reports.The next day, on June 24, Humayun and Tanzina gave a confessional statement under Section 164 in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.

The police arrested Sabrina on July 12 of the same year. He was a doctor at National Heart Institute and Hospital. After being arrested, he was suspended by the authorities.

A person named Kamal Hossain filed a case in Tejgaon police station as a plaintiff in the case of fraud. On August 13, 2020, after investigating the case, the police submitted a charge sheet to the court against eight people including Sabrina.

It is said in the chargesheet that Sabrina and her husband Ariful played a major role in this fraud.
