During the tenure of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, bridges were built over Jamuna Bridge, Karnafuli Third Bridge, Meghna and Gomti rivers. The Awami League called a strike during the construction of the Jamuna bridge. The construction of the third bridge over the Karnafuli River was opposed by the late Mohiuddin Chowdhury, president of the Awami League in Chittagong. Even then, the BNP did not make any insults against anyone. BNP shows political sympathy and tolerance. This is why people love BNP. BNP is a people’s party. The BNP develops with the people.

Dr. Shahadat said that ordinary people are living their lives in dire straits due to rising commodity prices. The price of soybean oil is above Rs. Everything including onion-garlic, daily necessities like rice-pulses are on the rise. People are holding rallies on the highways and the government is obstructing the rise in commodity prices. This government has silenced the people. Cases in absentia, extrajudicial killings and the ICT Act are the main weapons of this government. Whenever the people say something against the government, a case is filed against it. Black law has strangled the freedom of the press. So today journalists cannot speak, cannot write for fear of ICT Act case. The common people are dissatisfied with the corruption and misrule of this government.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain further said that the recruitment activities are continuing in the unit with the aim of organizing the party under the direction of acting chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman. Soon after the recruitment of members, leadership will be developed through unit, ward and thana conferences. All those who will take the lead must play a leading role in the movement against this dictatorship.
