33 Rohingyas including women and children bound for Malaysia rescued from St. Martin

Navy members rescued 33 Rohingyas, including children, in the Bay of Bengal in St. Martin’s, Cox’s Bazar, while sailing to Malaysia by sea.

The navy ship ‘Banauja Ali Haider’ rescued them along with a trawler 2 nautical miles northwest of St. Martin’s Island at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar around 12pm on Thursday.

Confirming the information, Captain Sohail Azam, captain of the Banauza Ali Haider ship, said:

At that time 33 people including a trawler bound for Malaysia were rescued. Among them 13 are women, 14 are men and 1 is a child. All of them are said to be residents of various Rohingya camps in Ukhia and Teknaf. They will be handed over to the St. Martin Coast Guard at the end of the process, the ship’s official said.
