There is no danger of militant attack on Eid, we are alert: RAB Director General

There is no danger of militant attack centering on Eid. Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Director General of Elite Force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) made this comment.

He said, “Analysis of other data including cyber monitoring did not find any specific information about any kind of militant attack centered on Eid.” Yet we are not suffering from complacency. RAB is also ready to thwart any kind of sabotage plan of the militants. 

He said this in a briefing after inspecting the security arrangements of the National Eidgah on Sunday.

Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said security has been beefed up at various important Eidgahs in the country, including the capital Dhaka. Apart from this, special force of RAB will be deployed. Security sweep will be carried out at the National Eidgah with Dog Squad and Bomb Disposal Unit. Adequate reserve force will be deployed to deal with any situation. The whole area will be under CCTV cameras. Besides, security is being swept at important Eidgahs of the country.

The RAB director general also said that the RAB’s cyber monitoring team has been keeping a close watch on online to take necessary steps to prevent the spread of any kind of rumor, provocative or false information in the virtual world centered on Eid. 

He said the commando team of RAB Special Forces has been kept ready at all times to deal with any sabotage or attack. Besides, RAB Air Wing helicopters have been kept ready in any situation.

Stating that steps have been taken to stop extortion, the RAB Director General said that RAB has also taken effective steps to curb various harassing activities including extortion on roads and waterways, collection of extra fare, carrying extra passengers. Initiatives have been taken to verify whether the drivers of various vehicles including extra passenger buses, pickups and Laguna have driving licenses and fitness certificates and to take disciplinary action through mobile courts.

According to the RAB Director General, the RAB battalions will coordinate with the people’s representatives and other law enforcement agencies through their respective control rooms. Security will be monitored and coordinated across the country, including Dhaka, through the control room (hotline number 01720029) at the RAB headquarters.
