A 10th class student (15) was allegedly raped after entering a house in Hatia, Dwip Upazila, Noakhali. Police have arrested a young man named Abdul Aziz alias Tanmoy (19) in the incident.
He was arrested last Saturday night. The student’s mother filed a case against Tanmoy on Sunday under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act. According to police and local sources, the student of Hatiyar Burirchar Union was alone at home last Friday night. Abdul Aziz of Gullakhali village in Hatia Municipality’s Ward 8 raped the girl after entering the house. The incident came to light when the student’s mother came home on Saturday. The student’s mother filed a case with the police on Sunday. Officer-in-charge of Hatia Police Station Amir Hossain told Prothom Alo that Abdul Aziz has been arrested on charges of raping a schoolgirl. He was sent to jail by the court on Sunday. The schoolgirl was sent to the 250-bed General Hospital in Noakhali for a medical examination on Sunday afternoon.
The hospital’s resident medical officer Syed Mohiuddin Abdul Azim said a teenager brought from Hatia underwent a medical examination on Sunday. This will be reported later.
