A Chattogram court today sentenced three siblings to death and another to life imprisonment in a case filed over the murder of a businessman in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar in 2016.

The siblings are Abu Bakkar, Younus Hossain and Ibrahim Mostafa, and Mohammad Sohaib was sentenced to life in prison, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent quoting Ayub Khan, the public prosecutor of the court.

After examining records and testimonies of 13 witnesses, Judge AKM Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury of the Chattogram Speedy Tribunal, handed down the verdict in presence of Abu Bakkar, said Ayub.

The rest of the convicts are absconding, he added.

The tribunal also acquitted one accused – Safayet — as charges brought against him could not be proved, he said.

According to the case statement, the body of Nurul Huda, a businessman, was recovered from the Ferryghat area under Chakaria on June 30, 2016.

Nurul, son Mohammed Shahjahan later filed the case at Chakaria Police Station accusing five people. Police pressed charges in November 2016.
