Bangladesh is the first among the South Asian countries in successfully tackling the Covid-19 pandemic, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque at the orientation programme of 42nd BCS Cadre at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Sunday, a day after 1 crore people received their first shots of Covid-19 vaccination.
Zahid said 1.20 crore people in total were administered Covid vaccines on Saturday and among them, 1.11 crore people have received their first dose, surpassing the target set by the government, which was to inoculate 1 crore people with the first dose.
He said about 73% of the country’s population have been vaccinated now.
Bangladesh has reached the 100 per cent vaccination target set by World Health Organization (WHO), he said adding that the special national drive will continue for two more days.
