Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) has secured the first position among universities in Bangladesh and ranked 1,589th in the world, according to a ranking published by Webometrics for 2022.
Webometrics is a ranking system for the world’s universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the web content and the visibility of these web publications according to the number of external inlinks they receive. It is published by Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council located in Madrid.
Buet is followed by Dhaka University (1,668th globally), Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (1,815th in world), North South University (2,056th world rank), and Rajshahi University (2,076th in the world), as the top five universities in the country, according to the Webometrics rankings.
Last year, Dhaka University (DU) secured first position in Bangladesh and 1,634th worldwide in the rankings while Buet was in the second position in the country and 1,702nd in the world.
Among the Bangladeshi private universities, North South ranked in the top this year, according to the rankings.
Webometrics publishes the list every year based on information provided by the universitys’ websites. Besides, research, publication, researcher recommendations are also counted.
In the ranking this year, Harvard University has been placed in the first spot among universities across the globe, followed by Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of California Berkeley and University of Oxford in the top five.
