Amor Ekushey Book Fair begins

The 36th edition of the fair has been postponed for two weeks due to the novel coronavirus epidemic.
Initially, it was informed that the fair will run from 15 to 26 February. However, the authorities have hinted that the time will be extended if the corona infection is reduced.The main theme of this year’s fair is ‘Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Golden Jubilee of Independence’
Moreover, this year the book fair will mark the 70th anniversary of the language movement and at the same time the 50th anniversary of the drafting of the constitution.
This year 6 units of the fair have been allotted to 534 institutions, out of which 102 institutions have been allotted 142 units in the academy premises and 634 units of 432 institutions in Suhrawardy Udyan.There will be.
There are 35 pavilions. The pavilions have been arranged in all corners of Suhrawardy Udyan for health reasons. The main area of the fair is seven lakh square feet.
Considering the Corona situation, the fair will start at 2 pm and will continue till 9 pm. However, no one will be allowed to enter after 8 o’clock. The holiday fair will start at 11 pm. COVID-19 immunization certificate has been made mandatory. There will be a mobile court in the premises of the fair to monitor the hygiene rules. However, due to the situation of Covid-19, there is no children’s watch in the fair this time.
A total of 126 LittleMags have been allotted stalls at the fair. These stalls are arranged in the main courtyard of the park on the east side of the amphitheater. Publishers will be awarded the Chittaranjan Saha Memorial Award for judging a book published in 2022.Besides, three organizations will get ‘Munir Chowdhury Memorial Award’ for publishing the best book in artistic judgment. The Roknuzzaman Khan Dadabhai Smriti Award will be given to an organization for judging the quality of children’s books and the Qayyum Chowdhury Smriti Award will be given to an organization for its aesthetic decoration of stalls.
The state minister for culture said the novel coronavirus epidemic depends on whether the book fair will be extended. Due to the epidemic, the time of this year’s fair has been reduced by half.
